Woman’s ‘inappropriate’ work outfit sparks heated debate
A woman who claimed her work outfit attracted a complaint from her company’s HR department has revealed the “inappropriate” office attire online.
The woman, who didn’t share her name and is from the UK, shared her outfit on social media, amassing more than 100,000 likes.
“I’ve had an email from a lady in HR about my dress attire for work. Apparently it is inappropriate” she complained.
“I don’t think it is too bad.”
The young worker then stood back to reveal her entire outfit: a short black dress with a high neckline.
She then filmed herself seeking out advice from her male co-worker and asked if he thought her outfit was appropriate for the office.
She said the email she received described her outfit as “distracting”, but the male co-worker eased her worries and said he thought it was fine.
Things didn’t end there though.
The woman shared that after the email, she had a meeting with the HR representative who had initially commented on her outfit. And during that meeting, the same woman who made the complaint went on to question what she had worn to their meeting.
Once again on social media she shared what she was wearing, which was a short, long-sleeved V-neck black dress.
“I am basically in a blazer! So she can’t be mad. It is low-cut, but who cares?” she argued.
She said the HR worker said she was “slightly disappointed” by the outfit she’d chosen to wear for the meeting.
The worker then defended the first dress she wore and said her male co-worker said it was fine.
“I don’t think he was in a position to say what he did,” the HR woman replied.
“We do need to address this issue because we are having comments from other members of the staff.”
The young worker said she didn’t think it was her “fault” if co-workers were distracted by her outfits.
“That is not on me. That is kind of on them,” she argued.
The woman replied that people in the workplace had been claiming she was “begging for attention”, which immediately shocked her.
“Yikes,” she replied.
She then relented and said she’d go shopping for some new work clothes over the weekend but downtrodden by the experience.
The response online to her dress was divided.
Some thought it was fine and others just didn’t think it looked like something you’d wear to the workplace.
“This is a clubbing dress,” one argued.
“I was so ready to be on your side! But then you stepped back from the camera,” another admitted.
“HR is correct,” one said.
“It is too short and tight for the workplace,” someone else said
“It is so inappropriate,” one argued.
Meanwhile, other people argued in the comments that it isn’t the woman’s “fault” if she was distracting co-workers.
Someone else said she was “disappointed” to read the comments, and another said that they assumed the clip was a parody and just “rage bait.”
